SCAM ALERT: Please Protect Yourself from Impersonators

Unfortunately, online scammers targeting Maine Coon buyers are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Sovereign Maine Coons and even my personal name and identity are now being impersonated.

Scammers are stealing our photos, posts, website content and other information and using it to create fake Facebook pages, TikTok accounts, phone numbers and profiles. Some are presenting themselves as me and communicating with potential families as though they are legitimately associated with Sovereign Maine Coons.

They are not.

Because these scams are becoming increasingly convincing, we want everyone considering one of our kittens to know exactly how to protect themselves.

Know Who You Are Speaking With

There are only a few people associated with Sovereign Maine Coons who you may ever communicate with regarding our kittens:

Amber — Owner of Sovereign Maine Coons. I handle the vast majority of our communication and, most importantly, I handle our sales, contracts and invoices.

Marko — Co-Owner, manages our official TikTok account and may communicate with you through TikTok.

Rick or Kip — Partners with Sovereign Maine Coons. You may occasionally communicate with Rick or Kip regarding our kittens or cattery. Will meet them in person during pickup or delivery.

For the most part, however, you will be dealing directly with me, Amber, especially when it comes to purchasing a kitten, contracts and invoices.

If someone claims to be an employee, representative, sales associate, assistant or other person acting on behalf of Sovereign Maine Coons and their name is not listed above, do not send them money. Contact us directly and verify who you are speaking with first.

Verify That You Are Actually Speaking with Us

If anything feels suspicious, call us.

Do not be afraid to ask to speak directly with the person you are communicating with. You can also request a FaceTime video call. We will always FaceTime with a potential family who wants to verify that they are speaking with us.

A legitimate breeder should not have a problem proving who they are.

Most importantly, always verify our current contact information directly through our official website. If someone contacts you from a phone number, Facebook page, TikTok account or other profile that does not match the information listed on our website, do not assume it is us simply because they are using our name, photos or content.

We Do NOT Accept Money Without Proper Documentation

Sovereign Maine Coons does not operate through random messages followed by a request for payment.

Before sending a deposit or any other payment, you should receive BOTH:

A contract AND an invoice.

If someone claiming to be Sovereign Maine Coons or claiming to be me is asking you to send money and you have not received a contract and an invoice, DO NOT SEND THE MONEY.

If the phone number they are using is different from the number published on our official website, stop and contact us through the information on our website before proceeding.

Scammers Are Getting Very Good at This

Please understand that seeing our kitten photos, our name, my name, our logo or even content copied directly from our pages does not prove that you are communicating with us.

These people are stealing legitimate breeders’ content specifically because it makes their scams look legitimate. This is not only happening to us but other breeders as well.

They may know information about our kittens. They may copy descriptions we have written. They may use my name. They may create social-media pages that look extremely similar to ours. They may even communicate professionally.

Verify first. Pay second.

If you have any doubt whatsoever, contact us directly through the phone number or contact information published on the official Sovereign Maine Coons website. We would much rather spend a few minutes confirming that you are speaking with us than have someone lose money to a scammer impersonating our business.

And remember we will answer the phone, we will FaceTime, and legitimate payments to Sovereign Maine Coons will be accompanied by the proper contract and invoice.

Please be careful, verify who you are dealing with, and never allow someone to pressure you into sending money before you are comfortable that they are legitimate.
